This new charity is the idea of BBC Business Editor, Robert Peston, who wants young people in disadvantaged state schools to have the same opportunities to hear from inspirational speakers as those who attend top independent schools.
740 people have so far registered to participate including many leading CEOs, politicians, media and arts people, scientists, entrepreneurs and academics. Speakers will address the big topical issues: technological, scientific, political, economic, historical, cultural, artistic, ecological and ethical. The aim is to broaden the horizons and raise the aspirations of disadvantaged young people.
Speakers for Schools is administered by small UK charity the Education and Employers Taskforce. Please visit: http://www.speakers4schools.org/Sign up now to watch Jonathan Edwards on Glow TV >>

Hello! Just trying to organise an Olympics Week at our primary school in Kent. I was wondering if you know of any sports person that could come and inspire the children? (for a reasonable cost!!!!) Many thanks, Louise Brookman (Key Stage 1 Leader)
Hi Louise, we were lucky enough that ‘Speakers for Schools’ wanted to have a Scottish launch of their initiative and they organised Jonathan Edwards to come to this school. We have also managed to organise a number of athletes to speak to pupils online through our national intranet ‘Glow’. These have been organised at national level with the support of our national sports bodies, sportscotland and Scottish Disability Sport. Usually you have to go through the governing body of each sport to get access to the athletes, unless you have a personal contact of course! I would consider finding out who your local up and coming young athletes were and using them… Let us know how you get on…
