Mentor training for pupils in Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire is trailblazing a new approach to Glow training that gives pupils the skills to train their peers.

Currently busy training staff in six primary schools, Glow mentors in Aberdeenshire will soon turn their attention to training pupils. Aberdeenshire is the first local authority to create a detailed plan for training ‘Glow bugs’ – pupil Glow Mentors.

Since starting its Glow rollout, Aberdeenshire has invested in five technology support officers, who have gathered together a team of 40 mentors. After summer, the team will begin Glow’s rollout in two pilot academies. They will train up 160 pioneers from primary and secondary schools, who will continue their work.

Following the busy summer activities, Aberdeenshire will have amassed a team of five support officers, 40 mentors and 160 pioneers. With this impressive support team in place, they will turn their attention to providing training material for Glow bugs. These Glow bugs will have the knowledge and skills to train their classroom peers, creating real momentum at every level of pedagogy.

I think you’ve mixed up Aberdeenshire with Aberdeen City here. Aberdeenshire are preparing the Glow Bugs project but we have trained staff in all but 4 of our 173 schools – not just 6! The team numbers are all wrong too. It isn’t the mentors who will be training the pupils either. It is the staff tutors who will start with the Glow team in August.

I am very disappointed in this site. Apart from the information you have written re ‘Glow Bugs’ none of the other information is correct. Please rectify this as soon as possible – I think you will find that the information you have here refers to Aberdeen City and not ABERDEENSHIRE!
The address you have for our Key Contact, Anna Rossvoll, is incorrect and again is relevant to Aberdeen City! I sent, on the 2nd July, an updated list of all our Glow mentors – please refer to this and update your information accordingly. You do not have all our mentors listed as we have 33 in total.

    Hi Alison,

Thanks for your comment. That’s a bit strange we’ve mixed it up. We’ll look into how that happened. That’s fantastic that you’ve trained staff in 169 of your schools. Would love to hear more about this when the staff tutors start in August.

    Hi Caroline,

First of all it’s a shame you’re disappointed in the new site, we’ve worked hard to change it. Previously you didn’t have such convenient access to Local Authority information across the country and ‘Learn about Glow’ materials to use, so we feel the site refresh has been a great step forward. Regarding your clarifications, we’ll get onto the case right now and sort it out. Isn’t it brilliant though that we can do this through comments on a site?

    Thanks for your help.
